It's not just McDonalds, Burger King and KFC which are the biggest franchises! Law and Order and CSI prove that when it comes to procedural television dramas, the audience always wants more. But now, in order to keep the audience interested, US networks have realised that separate storylines each week will only satisfy viewers so much, and so they have started to develop their 'products' beyond just procedural drama. Human drama with ongoing threads are now emerging as seen in series such as The Good Wife and Fringe. Single thread storylines which last one episode still prevail, but there are story arcs which begin in episode one of the season and may or may not be resolved by the end of the series. This hopefully ensures the viewers will stay tuned! We hope you tune in to www.facebook.com/EnglishToday for tips, activities, songs and much more.

But it was much later when he moved to the small screen on the groundbreaking series '24' that he really hit his stride and became a media sensation. When the sun is shining and you can't keep cool, it's great to go to an air-conditioned cinema to escape the heat. Hollywood knows this and saves some of its biggest, most commercial films for the summer months. So even though there are plenty of serious films for the movie buffs amongst you, there are also plenty of fun and action-packed films to tempt you to your local multiscreen cinema for two hours of mindless enjoyment. Television feeds off itself, often buying the rights to formats so that it seems that wherever we are in the world, we are watching the same shows. However, the Amercian version of the Danish series "The Killing" is definitely one remake that has been worth it. Maybe it's because the production remains faithful in style and atmosphere to the original which was praised for everything from performances to camerawork. The US version creates a dark, sombre world where everything seems normal and yet nothing or no-one is as they seem. Perhaps this is why it has drawn comparisons with David Lynch's "Twin Peaks". Download the first episodes and catch up with the show on Wednesdays on La Sexta. He's back! Spain's most internationally known Oscar-winning film director Pedro Amodóvar has returned, this time with a film based on other source material than his own, and that is not a problem. Part Frankenstein's monster story mixed with daytime soap opera melodrama, liberally laced with the dark, almost twisted humour that he is renowned for, The Skin I LIve In is a classy, beautifully filmed addition to his repetoire. Antonio Banderas and Elena Anaya excel in the lead roles, but all the cast are excellent.
